President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump joined roughly 140,000 spectators for the first-ever IndyCar race through Washington DC, marking the finale of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Twenty-five drivers from 14 nations competed on a 2.7-kilometre street circuit, with American Kyle Kirkwood taking victory. The event, costing IndyCar an estimated $35 million but expected to generate up to $200 million for the city, drew criticism from nonprofits over potential vibration damage to nearby museums, claims organisers and the White House have dismissed.
